Helena Tapp Barroso joined the firm in 2006. She is co-coordinator of the insurance, reinsurance and pension fund team, a member of the data protection team and also a member of the
employment, pensions and immigration team.
Helena provides regular legal counselling on data protection, labour and corporate law, regularly assisting clients in structuring solutions and operations covering business areas such as the digital economy and new technologies, banking, financial activities and insurance, as well as in the automotive industry, distribution and
healthcare sectors.
She also advises on insurance law, with particular emphasis on pension funds.
Helena provides advice in all areas of employment and social security law, including those connected with the incorporation and transfer of businesses and corporate restructuring, covering all areas of work organisation and mobility of people. She also regularly represents several clients in labour litigation and dispute regulation.
Helena has wide experience in providing consultancy on data protection and connected matters, dedicating an important part of her professional activity to advising national and international clients on setting-up privacy and data protection policies, performing data protection audits, training and compliance programmes, as well as assisting clients in preparing and reviewing contractual clauses and analysing, evaluating and advising on data privacy compliance for products and services in specific sectors of activity, particularly those mentioned above. She holds relevant experience on the role and responsibilities of data protection officer in the insurance sector.
Helena was an Assistant Professor at the University of Lisbon School of Law, from 1989 to 2001. She lectures regularly in Advanced and Postgraduate courses covering labour law, insurance, privacy and data protection organised by the University of Lisbon School of Law and the Nova Law School.
She is also the author of several articles and podcasts on data protection, AI, labour and insurance and she is often invited to speak at conferences and seminars covering such subject areas.
