Andreia Guerreiro, a partner at Morais Leitão, says that digital assets, such as cryptocurrencies, social media profiles and others, can be inherited by presenting legal documents, such as wills, or according to the instructions left on digital platforms. The lawyer emphasises that certain digital assets, such as cryptocurrencies, e-books and for-profit accounts, have patrimonial value and can be passed on to heirs.
The article also analyses specific cases of platforms such as Google, Apple and Revolut, which have already implemented procedures to manage these digital assets after death.
