Following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union on 12 July, 2024, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 of the European Parliament and of the Council of June 13, 2024 laying down harmonized rules on artificial intelligence (“AI Act”) enters into force today.
Although the applicability of the rules of the AI Act will be phased in over time, the set of requirements and obligations imposed on the operators of the AI systems covered justifies preventive action.
What should organisations concerned do?
- Review and map the AI systems in use or contracted;
- Categorise AI systems according to the AI Act’s risk matrix;
- Set up a transversal team or task force;
- Draw up a Guide of Best Practices and adapt internal processes accordingly.
Morais Leitão's Digital Cluster - Artificial Intelligence has followed and continues to monitor the legislative process and is available, through a transversal and specialized team, to help its clients adapt internally and anticipate the requirements and obligations arising from the EU AI Act and other applicable legislation.
