Carlos Botelho Moniz was elected President (2015-2016) of the European Lawyers’ Union in the Annual General Assembly that occurred 29 November 2014 in Krakow (Poland).
Carlos Botelho Moniz, Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva partner, coordinator of the European law and competition team, and a founding member of the UAE, organized in 2013 in Lisbon the XXVII Congress of the Union concerning "The Economic and Financial Crisis in Europe: On the road to recovery?".
The UAE, established in 1986, a non-profit association whose members practice within the European Union, aims to (a) promote the harmonization of legislation, professional customs and ethics governing lawyers of members states of the European Union; (b) promote professional European practice, the right of establishment of services and the freedom to provide services; (c) allow practitioners to develop contacts both among themselves and with European institutions; (d) promote the practice of community law and the law surrounding the European Convention for the protection on human rights and fundamental freedoms .
The European Lawyers' Union organizes conferences and seminars in all European Member States of the European Union. For instance the XXVIII Congress on "Punitive damages and collective actions in Europe" took place in Vienna in 2014.
Besides many others initiatives in several member states of the European Union, the XXIX Congress on "Le systhème de Protection des Droits Fondamentaux en Europe" is planned to take place in Malaga 18-20 June 2015.
