João Matos Viana signs the article ‘Prison system: Portugal took the exam in Europe and has already received the final grade’

João Matos Viana, partner at Morais Leitão, in his article ‘Prison system: Portugal has been tested in Europe and has already received the final grade’, published in the Público newspaper, praises the progress of the prison system in Portugal, according to the Council of Europe's (CoE) assessment. However, the lawyer warned of persistent problems, such as the degradation of infrastructure and overcrowding, criticising the lack of clear information on the 90 million euro requalification plan.

João Matos Viana emphasises the need for an integrated approach that promotes both prison security and social reintegration, saying that both are essential to guarantee the dignity of prisoners and the safety of society.
