Morais Leitão and Lexology organised masterclass on the Digital Services Act (DSA)

Morais Leitão and Lexology organised  jointly a digital masterclass dedicated to the DSA - Digital Services Act - entitle Get Ready for the DSA

This online training, which took place on 12 December, featured the senior associate Inês Ferrari Careto and associate Inês F. Neves as trainers. Graça Enes (Associate Professor of European and International Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto (FDUP), coordinator of the CIJ - Centre for Legal Research and of the Jean Monnet Module "A Digital Europe for Citizens. Constitutional and Political Challenges") and João Diogo Quartilho (Senior Consultant at Booking.com) were also be joined as speakers.

The training aimed to expose the European Digital Services Act (DSA) and its implications, as an act applicable in all EU Member States, impacting on the provision of online intermediary services and the guarantee of recipients' fundamental rights.

Presented as a "major update" or "reform" of the Directive on electronic commerce, which has already been overtaken by two decades of technological development and innovation, the DSA also introduces a series of obligations that are staggered and proportional to the type and size of the service provider. These include measures to detect, report, risk assess and combat the dissemination of illegal content online, increasing transparency (e.g., with regard to terms and conditions), ensuring the traceability of products and limiting the risks of targeted advertising and obscure patterns.
