Pedro de Gouveia e Melo returns to the firm after his secondment in 2007 to the Washington office of the North-American firm Latham & Watkins LLP. During his secondment at Latham, he integrated the Global Antitrust and Competition Practice Group of that firm, having mainly worked in the areas of North-American and international Competition Law, including in cases in the US Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission. Latham is one of the 10 largest law firms in the world, currently with more than 2,100 lawyers, distributed by 24 offices in the USA, Europe and Asia, and was appointed in 2007, the “Law Firm of the Decade” by the well-known magazine Legal Business. In Competition Law, either in the USA or in Europe, the firm has a solid reputation, having been appointed, among others, by the Chambers and Partners, the "US Antitrust Law Firm of the Year" in 2004.
