Tiago Félix da Costa takes a positive view of the renaming of the CPI in the case of the twins
In an interview with ECO, Tiago Félix da Costa, partner at Morais Leitão, expressed his satisfaction with the recent decision by the Supreme Administrative Court (STA) to ask the Portuguese Parliament to change the name of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the case of the twins. According to the lawyer, this change is a 'good sign' and is crucial to protect the identity and rights of the children involved.
The new name proposed by the STA is 'Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry to verify the legality and conduct of politicians allegedly involved in the health care of two children treated with the drug Zolgensma'.
Tiago Félix da Costa stressed that this change should be reflected in all formal and informal communications, as well as on the Parliament's website, to ensure that references to the committee do not associate the twins with a case that could damage their honour and image.
The lawyer also stressed that the STA's decision was groundbreaking and that the case was "extremely interesting and challenging". He stressed the importance of striking a balance between the interest of parliamentary investigative committees in seeking the truth and the right of citizens to protection, especially in situations as sensitive as this. In addition, Tiago Félix da Costa suggested that the National Data Protection Commission should have acted before the case reached the courts, underlining the need for a proactive approach to protecting children's rights.
