Tiago Geraldo, David Silva Ramalho and Nuno Igreja Matos give training on Money Laundering and Bitcoin Laundering

Tiago Geraldo, David Silva Ramalho and Nuno Igreja Matos, lawyers at Morais Leitão and associates at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences, will conduct a specialised training course for the Institute of Registries and Notaries on money laundering and the use of bitcoins for this purpose.

The training programme will focus on two main themes:

1. Money Laundering: The training will cover the European and national regulatory framework, focussing on the preventive and repressive aspects. Topics such as anti-money laundering measures, risk management, the entities subject to the legislation, the competent authorities and the applicable sanctions regime will be discussed, covering criminal offences and administrative offences.
   
   
2. Laundering with Bitcoins: This part of the training will be dedicated to blockchain technology, bitcoin mining, digital wallets and transactions. Issues such as the use of cryptocurrencies for money laundering, the regulation of crypto-assets, cybercrime and the challenges of criminal investigation on the blockchain will be analysed.

The training sessions will take place on the following dates:

• Money laundering with Bitcoins:
  24 and 25 September, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  7 and 8 October, from 14h00 to 17h00
  
  
• Money Laundering:
  9 and 10 October, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
