A European Union of Justice. Challenges for Judicial Cooperation in Europe
The book A European Union of Justice. Challenges for Judicial Cooperation in Europe - Proceedings of the XXXIV Congress of the U.A.E., published by the prestigious publisher Bruylant. The book, edited by Pedro Gouveia e Melo, partner at Morais Leitão, and Gabriele Donà, Honorary President of the U.A.E., brings together the speeches and debates of the XXXIV Congress of the Union of European Lawyers (U.A.E.), held exceptionally by videoconference due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the theme "Judicial Cooperation in the European Union", the Congress included the participation of David Silva Ramalho, managing associate of Morais Leitão, who contributed to the discussion on judicial cooperation in criminal matters, and Carlos Botelho Moniz, Honorary Partner of Morais Leitão and Honorary President of the U.A.E., who moderated the session dedicated to the challenges for judicial cooperation arising from issues related to the rule of law.
The programme was divided into three working sessions:
- Judicial cooperation in civil and commercial matters, with contributions from Judge Giuseppe Buffone and lawyers Boris Dostal and César García de Quevedo, moderated by Gabriele Donà;
- Judicial cooperation in criminal matters, with contributions from Eurojust member António Cluny, Professor Kimmo Nuotio, the European Coordinator for Victims' Rights, Katarzyna Janicka-Pawlowska, and David Silva Ramalho, moderated by U.A.E. Secretary General Nicole Hirst;
- Challenges for judicial cooperation in the context of the rule of law, moderated by Carlos Botelho Moniz, with contributions from Judge Camelia Toader, of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Judge José Igreja Matos, of the Court of Appeal of Porto, and Professor Laurent Pech.
