« The rise of technologies aimed at guaranteeing a satisfactory level of anonymity in Web browsing brought forth a type of software which allows Internet users to reach the Deep Web. The advantages of these tools were quickly spotted by cybercriminals and used for malicious purposes in the Dark Web. The present study intends to explain the origins and concept of the Dark Web, as well as to analyse the effectiveness of the legal mechanisms provided by Portuguese Law to respond to these new challenges and ultimately to present some tools which may be useful to counter this type of cybercrime».
