Joana Maria Andion joined Morais Leitão in September 2019. She is a member of the firm's
intellectual property, technology and personal data department.
At Morais Leitão, Joana Maria Andion works in intellectual property, with special focus on copyright law, trademarks, negotiation concerning intellectual property and litigation. Joana Maria Andion’s practice is focused on advising clients on the protection strategy, litigation, exploitation, assignments, licensing, use and enforcement of their intellectual property rights, namely negotiating in licensing contracts for the use and exploitation of audiovisual works, literary and artistic works and technology rights protected under copyrights law.
Joana Maria Andion also integrates Team Genesis, due to her strong knowledge of technology and the challenges the digitalisation rises in intellectual property matters, and she also integrates at Morais Leitão a group of lawyers focused in studying and researching about the relevance in law of the artificial intelligence topics.
In addition, since 2023, she has been Co-Chair of the Young Members Committee of LES Spain-Portugal, the regional association that is part of LESI (Licensing Executives Society International). In 2022, she obtained the ‘Registered Techonology Transfer Professional’ (RTTP) certificate from the Alliance of Techonology Transfer Professionals (ATTP).
In 2024, Joana Maria Andion was recognised as ‘Copyright Lawyer of the Year’ by the ‘Women in Business Law’ (WIBL) awards attributed by the Legal Media Group and in 2023 she was named “key lawyer” by the Legal 500 EMEA Ranking.
