Joaquim Vieira Peres became a Morais Leitão partner in 2006. He is co-coordinator the European law and competition department.

He is one of the most active Portuguese lawyers in the area of competition law, both at the national and community level.

His experience includes advising and representing clients in merger control procedures, as well as in the areas of anti-trust and state aid. His professional activity also includes the representation of private parties in proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Communities. He has experience in the areas of trade and distribution, electronic communications, real estate and construction, insurance, telecommunications and transports.

Joaquim recently resumed his collaboration with the Católica Porto School of Law, teaching national competition law. He had been an Assistant Professor there, from 1986 to 2003.

In 1989 he established Osório de Castro, Verde Pinho, Vieira Peres, Lobo Xavier e Associados – Sociedade de Advogados –, being a partner until the merger with Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles Soares da Silva & Associados in 2006.
