Maria Gouveia has been working with Morais Leitão since 2016, as a partner in the firm's tax team.
She has nearly two decades of experience as a tax professional, having worked in the European Commission's Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union, as a tax advisor for eight years (she was a tax manager in a Big Four multinational advisory firm) and, since 2016, as a lawyer in Morais Leitão's tax department.
She works in the areas of international and domestic taxation for clients from different sectors and industries, particularly in the context of M&A transactions, venture capital, financing and advising national and international investors in defining investment strategies in Portugal. She has extensive experience in advising banks, insurance companies, investment funds, start-ups, companies in the real estate, technology, energy and healthcare sectors.
Law Degree (Faculty of Law, University of Porto, 2005). Post Graduate Studies in Tax (Coimbra Faculty of Law, 2007). Several specialised courses in Tax and Corporate Law. Certified Trainer (CAP) – frequently takes part in internal and external tax trainings.
