Rui de Oliveira Neves rejoined the firm as partner in 2021, with responsibility for business transformation to provide a renewed offer of legal services with a strategic and risk management approach focused on advising on transactions, projects and regulatory matters. He also adds a strong focus on sustainability, co-coordinating the firm’s Sustainability practice to respond to
ESG and human rights matters.
Between 2013 and 2021, he was Director of Legal Affairs and Governance, General Secretary and held management positions at Galp. Previously, he had developed his career at Morais Leitão for 14 years.
In the area of M&A, he was responsible for conducting several of the largest transactions in the Iberian Peninsula, in various sectors, namely energy, telecommunications and
transport, highlighting the acquisitions of some of the largest portfolios of renewable assets in the United States and Spain. In capital markets, he has advised on the IPO of one of the world's largest renewable energy companies, on the reprivatisation of Portugal’s largest utility company, on the reprivatisation of the national TSO, on several tender offers and in other IPOs and reprivatisation processes.
On the other hand, he is one of the most active lawyers in the area of
energy law, with a track record in all areas of the sector, with particular emphasis on international regulatory and transactional experience, from the oil and gas industry, in the upstream, midstream and downstream aspects, to the production, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity and natural gas, as well as in renewable energy and new energy solutions, namely hydrogen, renewable gases and batteries.
