«Crowdfunding - or the use of online platforms to raise money for business ventures or other organizations from either donations or investments from multiple individual or legal persons - has been steadily gaining traction in Africa. Still, crowdfunding in Africa remains limited compared to other regions and specially in Mozambique, the phenomenon is somewhat lagging other regions and even fellow countries of the Southern African Development Community.

Despite the relatively slow adoption of crowdfunding, the mechanism represents great potential for closing the funding gap that prevents small and mid-size enterprises (SMEs) and both entrepreneurs and individuals from scaling their business».
